We had a wonderful week of backpacking the Rae Lakes loop in Kings canyon. The almost 50 mile 6 days were a challenge as we ascended to the almost 12,000 foot Glen Pass then finished with a 12 mile day descending along Budd creek into roads end of Kings canyon. My camera quit and produced no photos of my own....faulty sd card....but my friends Janet and Viki shared a whole file full...a few of which I couldn't open for the blog. Well, you will get the gist of the beautiful scenery and what 5 "seasoned" elders look like on the trail. We were on the Pacific Crest and John Muir trail which always provides some good conversations....and youngsters over taking us. But....we did it and felt powerfully strong afterwards.

A week of backpacking
We start out looking fresh
Mary, Randy, Janet, Sue and Viki
We saw many Marmots posing along the way
The magnificent Rae Lakes
This was at the top of Glen Pass almost 12,000 feet.
We shared a wonderful experience with our peak mates.
The singing hiker gave us a few songs.
Then a group of "boys" entertained us with jazzy 4 part harmony
We UU's sang a short rendition of "Blue Boat Home"
before we all happily trudged
down the miles of barren switchbacks.
An unexpected bonding perched on a narrow ledge
12,000 feet high in the sierras.
Beautiful scenery everywhere
And beautiful campsites
On our decent along Budd creek Mary was leading us
and came across this bear lumbering up the trail.
It just ambles past us..so close
and it happened so fast that we didn't feel any fear.
I think it is an old one just going to eat the wild onions.
