Jack always heads for the water.
The meadow is the place to view the sunset.
A rare picture where only Granddad is making a silly face !!
.
After an evening in the tent cabins in the valley
we headed for the high country.
Arlo and Jack seem to have a real connection with Half Dome
and we were able to view it from several angles.
At Olmstead point a telescope was positioned so that we could see
the people climbing up the cables.
Jack tries to replicate the shape.
Of course, Nana and Grandad couldn't stop reminiscing
about the the times they have climbed Half Dome.
The boys got a feel for it by scaling the granite
Tanaya Lake was next
We watched the rock climbers for a while.
Arriving at Tuolumne Meadows we hiked a little ways
down the trail to Dog Lake.
Then it was off to settle into our cozy tent cabin at Tuolumne Lodge..
.a very rustic but neat High Sierra Camp.
The river runs right through the camp and was faster flowing
than when I stayed here 2 years ago.
It invited much exploration and contemplation.
And of course...Jack went swimming
In the evening a big bonfire was lit
and we shared smores and conversations around the fire
In our cabin a morning fire was lit by Arlo
Grandad and jack brought me wake up tea.
We explored many of the local trails including
the John Muir trail that a group of us have been hiking
in sections for the last 2 years.
A last dinner of ice cream and hot dogs at the store.
We love the vibe of this area...rock climbers and backpackers
re stocking for the trail. We watched and chatted with a few.
Arlo and Jack past our test and earned the privileged
and responsibility of knife ownership.
One last fire, and river connection and breakfast in the meadow..
then..Goodbye Yosemite ...til next time
Last year Arlo and Jack lost their cousin Kathryn
due to complications of asthma.
They left a little blue heart necklace here in her memory.
