more good kayaking

It has been a warm summer here in Cambria...shorts most days. The water is also warmer and encourages getting a little wet. We took our inflatable kayak out last week and enjoyed San Simeon Cove. The whales are not in right now but sea otters and birds abound. It was delightful to watch a seagull playing in the spray from the blow hole.

We also spent a great morning in the Salinas River with Evan and others from Outside Now, a local group that mostly works with reconnecting children to nature. We followed animal tracks, the most exciting being beaver. We followed them right up river to a large beaver dam, surrounded by chewed sticks. It was wonderful mud oozing through our toes.
