Yosemite and Moonbows

This week we went to Yosemite to take a class in photographing moonbows. These are rainbows that happen in the mist of Yosemite Falls at the time of a full moon. Even though it was a drier year Mike managed to capture some "color" in his photos.

Mikes Moonbow, small but exciting to see, something we had never seen before.
A photo of a great Moonbow in the art gallery

And the falls at night from the meadow. We enjoyed being up at midnight to see these phenomenon.

                                                     We hiked to Mirror Lake
And there was actually water in it, enough to warrant a log crossing.
And of course, my favorite sight, Half Dome at sunset.
We went up to Glacier Point for the fantastic views
Thinking about the times we have stood atop Half Dome

And looking towards where we backpacked on the John Muir Trail last year.
                                                       And below to the Valley

As we left the valley we noticed the ice that had formed at the side of Yosemite Falls during the freezing night. When that is more plentiful and melts it forms the frazil ice in the rivers. See a clip on Frazil ice below, sent to me by Arlo, sent to him by his teacher.  GREAT TEACHER

And we watched climbers on El Capitan
