Valentines at Lake Lopez

We found a couple of days to take the motor home to Lake Lopez. We intended to go fishing but we had cool, cloudy weather and went hiking instead. The high ridge trail was challenging...we actually made a new trail back to the campground...me sliding down on my butt. Not many people there and we had our favorite campsite. Lots of birds and the bird sounds were awesome. We saw red-wings, towhees, woodpeckers, turkeys, white pelicans, blue jays, and starlings all from our campsite.

We started off just to see what the Blackberry trail was like...
and kept going to the top.

It was nice to have the cloud cover on the ridge

And a view of the lake below

Yes, the trail does go up and over the hill ahead

 Shell fossils

It was hard to find the trail down

A glimpse of the water park below

It was steep, even steeper than this
when I took to crabbing down on my butt.
We thought we might get rain
but just a hole in the sky

The next day we hiked up the canyon
but stayed at Lake level

 Many good choices for hiking

Interesting geology and up lifting

And to the adventure course.
The grandsons did this last summer.

And the water park

This bridge was a project built by the Cal Poly ARCHE students

Our favorite site  #48 in the Quail section.
We had a video with all the wonderful birds
and their birdsong but it didnt load.
